What is TESS?

The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite searches for planetary transits across large areas of the sky.

A wide survey

TESS monitors stellar brightness and identifies repeating dimming signals. Many targets are comparatively bright, helping follow-up observations.

Follow-up matters

A TESS signal is initially a candidate. Additional observations and analysis distinguish planets from eclipsing binary stars and other explanations.
