UNDERSTANDING OTHER WORLDS
How many exoplanets have been discovered?
The total changes as the archive accepts new confirmations. Our live statistics count the confirmed records held in the local catalogue.
Check the live count
Visit Statistics for the current catalogue size, systems and discovery-year breakdown. The timestamp shows when we last successfully synchronised.
Candidates and confirmations
A candidate is a signal awaiting sufficient verification. Candidate catalogues differ in scope and can overlap, so we do not combine them into a misleading single total.
Discovery is not archive ingestion
A publication date, discovery year and archive addition date are different events. After the initial baseline, our latest-added feed uses first-seen dates and labels them accordingly.
